Installation of Cooll’s adsorption heat pump at The Green Village

Cooll heat pump is installed as in hybrid with the condensing boiler.

In February 2024 Cooll has travelled to Delft, where the testing grounds of The Green Village are located. At The Green Village, knowledge- and educational institutions, entrepreneurs, government bodies and civilians can research, experiment, validate and demonstrate their sustainable innovations. This field lab at TU Delft Campus focuses on the urban environment where you can test on neighbourhood-, street- and building level. The Cooll installation is described here: https://www.thegreenvillage.org/project/cooll-thermische-warmtepomp/

Cooll’s adsorption heat pump is demonstrating here that an alternative for electrical heat pumps is available. Not only as a silent, compact and comfortable heating solution for the end-user, but also as infrastructure friendly solution. Already we see growing (electrical) net congestion issues, where end-users are not able to connect to the grid and producers of renewable energy are not able to transfer their energy to the end-users. The house at The Green Village is a representative construction of a typical 1970’s house. This is where the biggest challenges are for decreasing energy consumption in the built environment: how to renovate a large part of the Dutch housing (cost-)effectively?

The installation work inside and outside the house went smoothly. Taking into account that no professional installer was involved and the installation procedure is still being optimized, it was only two days of work. So far the residents have been able to enjoy the heating comfort of their new heating appliance. Cool aims to demonstrate gas savings, ease of installation and heating comfort. Also, measurements will enable a further improvement of heat pump controls. Lastly, this test might be the first step for a 100 % hydrogen test run, which The Green Village can also facilitate.

The test will run until summer 2024.

Jelmer Dijkstra finishes the roof aspects of the installation.
